JSW Steel has achieved a significant global milestone by receiving the prestigious ResponsibleSteel™ Certification for four of its manufacturing plants. The plants at Vijaynagar (Karnataka), Dolvi, Tarapur (Maharashtra), and Salem (Tamil Nadu) have all been simultaneously recognized for their commitment to sustainable practices.
Aligned with its ‘Better Every Day’ philosophy, JSW Steel now has over 80% of its primary steel production from ResponsibleSteel™ certified sites. Notably, Tarapur has become the first downstream rolling mill in India to achieve this certification.
ResponsibleSteel™ is the steel industry’s first global certification initiative, promoting sustainable practices across the sector. The standard focuses on key issues like responsible sourcing, climate change, human rights, diversity, and environmental stewardship. JSW Steel’s achievement underscores its dedication to addressing global challenges while transitioning to a sustainable future.
Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Steel, expressed pride in this accomplishment, emphasizing the company’s role in supporting India’s vision of becoming a “Vikshit Bharat” (developed nation) by 2047. He also thanked ResponsibleSteel, the assurance panel, and BVQI for their support in reaching this milestone.
Annie Heaton, CEO of ResponsibleSteel, congratulated JSW for its leadership in adopting an international standard that addresses both environmental and social issues. She also highlighted India’s opportunity to lead the global shift toward sustainable steel production, with JSW’s certifications now representing 29% of India’s steel capacity certified under the ResponsibleSteel International Production Standard.
Surachet Tanwongsval, Executive Vice President at Bureau Veritas, expressed pride in supporting JSW’s certification, reaffirming Bureau Veritas’ commitment to helping the steel industry transition toward more responsible and sustainable practices.
JSW Steel’s achievement further solidifies its position as a global leader in sustainable steel production, setting a benchmark for the industry’s future.
