NMIMS School of Engineering Launches ‘Social Conclave 2025’ on Energy

Mumbai, January 29, 2025: Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, Mumbai (MPSTME) hosted the prestigious ‘Social Conclave 2025’, at the Mukesh Patel Auditorium in NMIMS Mumbai campus that addresses integral societal issues with a special focus on renewable energy and power. The inauguration ceremony of the event was graced by the Hon’ble Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power of India, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik.

The event took off with a flying start with the arrival of the Hon’ble Chief Guest, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, who was warmly welcomed by the leadership of SVKM’s NMIMS, including Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Hon.Joint Secretary Dr. Jayant Gandhi, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Meena Chintamaneni of the University along with other dignitaries.

Hon’ble Minister Shri Yesso Naik was escorted around to inspect student projects showcasing innovative and sustainable solutions that gave a glimpse of the future of renewable energy through the lens of the youth and academia. The innovative projects included turning single-use plastic into usable and recyclable bags, bookmarks, and other household items. Another interesting project was turning Rice Husk (a perennial problem where farmers burn it leading to major pollution issues) into usable and recyclable paper.

Welcoming the Chief Guest Shri Yesso Naik, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramesh Bhat said, “At NMIMS, we look towards harnessing the power of learning with a very rigorous curriculum for including embedded sustainability topics towards achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 mission. We see our role in bridging the skill gap by focusing on industry-relevant skills and continuous upskilling and reskilling, fostering entrepreneurship through the Skill India mission by encouraging innovative thinking and supporting startups driving economic growth.

We also see our role in building world-class educational infrastructure focusing on building a team of excellent faculty, creating world-class labs, and leveraging technological integration. We maintain the rigour of our curriculum embedded with sustainability principles and make high-quality education accessible to all the students in India. Our university is committed to working towards sustainable and prosperity of the Viksit Bharat and aligns with the vision.”

Chief Guest Shri Shripad Yesso Naik said, “I call upon all the young students and researchers here to leverage the immense potential of India’s renewable energy resources and scale the urbanisation and come out with innovative solutions to make our cities more sustainable, climate-friendly, resilient and future ready. I am certain that renewable energy and the energy of youth will be the two prime contributors for achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. My young friends, each one of you and your endless energy is going to be the fuel which will propel our great nation. My best wishes for you and your bright future.”

The event was attended by over 450 students, University staff, media personnel, government officials, and other dignitaries, ensuring a diverse and engaged audience.

After an interactive and engaging session, the event concluded with a ‘Vote of Thanks’ by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, who highlighted the importance of the ‘Social Conclave 2025’.

The success of ‘Social Conclave 2025’ aimed to foster a deeper understanding of renewable energy issues, raise awareness about the future of energy solutions, and inspire further innovation in this critical sector.
