The Evolving of Kanjilal Sweets Explored in Depth

Mumbai, India – Celebrated artist Pritam Kanjilal comes back to Jehangir Art Gallery with his second solo show, The Evolving of Kanjilal Sweets, from 7th to 13th April 2025 at Jehangir Art Gallery, 4th Gallery, Mumbai, between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. This body of work is a visual metaphor for the ever-changing nature of life—just like a variety of sweets, every piece is different but made with the same passion and attention to detail.

Kanjilal’s artistic experience reflects the wave and tide of life, experiencing change in myriad forms. With watercolors and pen & ink to acrylic and mixed media, his work stands as a manifestation of changing insights, growth and the disorganised beauty of life.

Having first inquired about a solo show at Jehangir Art Gallery in 2017, Kanjilal now offers a very personal body of work influenced by the constantly changing world by wars, pandemics, economic change, and the pleasures of parenthood. The Evolving of Kanjilal Sweets sets contrasts side by side light and dark, peace and turmoil, tradition and innovation—and challenges the viewer to create order from contradictions.

Just as a sweet maker makes every delicacy with the same attention, every artwork in this exhibition is a tribute to the serendipity of creativity, a celebration of the complexities of life, and an invitation to find joy in artistic evolution.

“Life, like art, is a constant process—unpredictable, layered, and intensely personal. With this show, I venture into transformation using a visual language that accepts contrast and change. As a sweet maker carefully prepares each morsel, I too do every piece with equal fervor, allowing imagination to freely course through changing mediums and angles. The Evolving of Kanjilal Sweets is more than a series; it’s an impression of the complexity of life, asking the viewer to look for beauty in the unexpected and sense in the contradictions.” by Pritam Kanjilal
