New Delhi, Aug 13: Ahead of Independence Day, a large-scale Tiranga Yatra in Palwal, Haryana, has earned two recognitions in the Golden Book of World Records, highlighting a massive public display of patriotism and national unity.
The event was recognised in the categories of ‘Longest Mass March With Flag’ and ‘Most People Holding a National Flag’. A provisional certificate for the longest mass march was presented to Gaurav Gautam of Palwal, Haryana.
Thousands of people participated in the August 13 march, with schoolchildren, young people, families and senior citizens joining the procession. Participants carried the Indian national flag as they walked together, creating a powerful visual expression of collective pride ahead of the country’s 80th Independence Day.
A major attraction of the Tiranga Yatra was a 5-km-long and 10-foot-wide tricolour, which formed the centrepiece of the procession. According to organisers, the giant flag received a warm welcome at around 20 locations along the route.
The event was organised as a tribute to India’s freedom movement and as a celebration of the values represented by the national flag — unity, courage, sacrifice and a shared commitment to the nation.
The recognitions come as preparations intensify for Independence Day on August 15, with the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign encouraging citizens to display the national flag and celebrate their connection with the country.
This year’s campaign is being observed in the spirit of 150 years of Vande Mataram, bringing renewed attention to the National Song and its enduring association with India’s freedom struggle and patriotic spirit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon citizens to participate enthusiastically in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reaffirm their commitment to building a developed India.
The Palwal Tiranga Yatra added a strong community dimension to these celebrations, bringing people of different generations together under one flag. While the Golden Book recognitions mark the scale of the event, its larger significance lies in the collective participation of ordinary citizens who came together to celebrate the Tiranga and the spirit of Independence.
The event stands as a vibrant reminder that national celebrations are not only about ceremonies and milestones, but also about the shared emotions, memories and aspirations that bring communities together.
