Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC Earns GreenKey Certification for the Third Time In a Row, Reinforcing Its Commitment to Sustainable Hospitality
Hyderabad, Sep 03: Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & Hyderabad International Convention Centre has been awarded the prestigious GreenKey certification for the third consecutive time, reaffirming its continued commitment to responsible and sustainable hospitality practices. The certification recognises the property’s ongoing efforts to integrate environmentally conscious practices across its operations and guest experience.
The GreenKey certification is an internationally recognised standard for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations within the tourism and hospitality sector. In India, the programme is managed by the Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad, a full member of the Foundation for Environmental Education.
Over the years, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC has become synonymous with environmentally responsible MICE hospitality in Hyderabad, integrating sustainability into the way it hosts conferences, conventions, corporate gatherings, weddings and other large-scale events. With its expansive convention infrastructure and focus on responsible operations, the property continues to demonstrate that high-volume MICE hospitality can be delivered with greater consideration for environmental impact. Its consistent efforts towards resource conservation, waste reduction and reduced plastic consumption have strengthened its positioning as an environment-conscious choice for event organisers and guests.
The latest certification reflects Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC’s sustained focus on reducing its environmental footprint through practical and measurable initiatives. These include the use of remineralized premium atmospheric drinking water, served in reusable glass bottles across guest rooms, helping reduce dependence on single-use plastic bottles. The property has also adopted energy-efficient systems, waste-reduction measures and other resource-conscious practices across its operations.
The hotel’s expansive green spaces further contribute to its sustainability efforts, supporting biodiversity while creating a more natural and environmentally conscious setting for guests. The continued focus on responsible resource management and reducing plastic consumption forms an integral part of the property’s approach to sustainable hospitality.
The property has also implemented several sustainability initiatives, including O2 atmospheric water generation technology that extracts moisture from the air and converts it into drinking water, replacing the need for conventional packaged water. Other measures include replacing diesel boilers with LPG boilers, reducing single-use plastic through reusable glass bottles, and adopting biodegradable pens and utensils across operations. The property has also installed a landmark solar power system comprising 1,818 panels spread across 48,904 sq. ft., with a capacity of 1,000 KWp. The installation generates approximately 4,000 units of electricity per day and meets around 50% of HICC’s energy requirements, while helping reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 1,022 tonnes annually.
