Bhubaneswar, Sept. 23 (UDN): The Bharat Taxi service is set to make its entry into Odisha, with the state government working on the necessary legal and administrative framework to introduce the cooperative-based cab service in major cities.

Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, in a written reply in the Odisha Assembly, said the government was taking steps to implement the initiative launched by the Union Ministry of Cooperation on February 5, 2026.
According to the minister, the required legal and administrative measures for rolling out the service in Odisha are currently under process.
A high-level meeting was also convened by the Union Cooperation Ministry in March to discuss the operational framework of Bharat Taxi. The deliberations focused on the proposed role of cooperative societies in running the service and the practical aspects of its implementation.
Odisha Framework Under Consideration
The detailed policy and operational framework for introducing Bharat Taxi in Odisha is presently under consideration at the departmental level, the minister said.
The service is being planned as a cooperative-based alternative in the cab sector, with the objective of creating an organised platform for drivers while offering passengers an affordable and safe transportation option.
Once the required formalities and administrative procedures are completed, Bharat Taxi is expected to begin operations in major cities across Odisha.
The launch is likely to bring a new cooperative-based model to the state’s urban transport sector, with the government now working towards completing the framework required for its implementation.
