Dr. Amita Chauhan Conferred With Lifetime Achievement Award for Promoting Science Among Young Minds

Dr. Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools, has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her significant contribution towards promoting scientific curiosity, innovation and a scientific temperament among young learners.

 
The award was presented by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT-RC1) and Amity Children Science Foundation during the valedictory ceremony of the 40th National Annual Convention of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers, held at Amity University. The award was presented by renowned scientist and former IIT Kanpur Professor Prof. H.C. Verma, Additional Director of Education, Delhi, Prof. K.S. Upadhyay, and IAPT National President Prof. P.K. Ahluwalia.
 
Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Amita Chauhan said, “It is essential to nurture curiosity about science among young minds. At Amity, we encourage students not only to learn science in the classroom but also to engage in research and innovation and develop a scientific temperament. It is a matter of pride that students from Amity schools have filed nearly 230 patents.”
 
Prof. K.S. Upadhyay, Additional Director of Education, Delhi, said that scientific thinking and research capabilities among school students are growing rapidly. He emphasised the importance of helping students develop confidence and encouraging them to explore their own pathways to success.
 
Prof. P.K. Ahluwalia, National President, IAPT, said, “The four-day convention provided an important platform for sharing ideas and discussing advances in research and innovation. Dr. Amita Chauhan’s visionary leadership has played a significant role in promoting experiential science education, innovation and scientific curiosity across Amity schools, inspiring generations of students to experiment, innovate and explore new possibilities.”
 
The valedictory ceremony also recognised winners of various national competitions. Dr. Arun Grover, former Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, received the IAPT Rainbow International Physics Excellence Award.
 
Vaishnavi Sharma of GLA University, Mathura, was awarded in the student category of the National Competition for Essay Writing in Physics, while Aditi Sharma of Bareilly College received an encouragement award. In the teachers’ category, Dr. Seema Vats of Motilal Nehru South Campus, University of Delhi, was honoured.
 
Awards were also presented to winners of the National Competition in Innovative Experiences in Physics, Best Poster Presentation, Best Oral Presentation, and National Anveshika Experimental Skill Test.
 
Speaking about his experience, the winner of the National Anveshika Experimental Skill Test said that the programme helped him develop a new perspective towards physics and understand its application in everyday life.
 
The event was attended by Prof. Rekha Ghorpade, Secretary, IAPT, Prof. Surjan Singh, President, IAPT-RC1, and other academicians, teachers, scientists and students.
 
The Indian Association of Physics Teachers works towards improving the quality of physics education and strengthening the capabilities of physics teachers at school, college and university levels. Its activities are coordinated through regional councils across the country.
