Gurugram, 10th September 2025: Vedatya, India’s trailblazing institution in hospitality and culinary education, unveiled the country’s first student-led winemaking initiative in a lab setting, culminating in a curated on-campus Wine Tasting Event on the 10th September 2025.
In keeping with their widely recognized applied approach to learning, Vedatya introduced an initiative that empowered students to learn the entire winemaking journey, from grape to glass. Unlike most other institutes that limit wine studies to theory, Vedatya gave its students hands-on exposure to fermentation, bottling, tasting, and wine service, making it the only program of its kind in India.
“Students can’t truly understand wine until they’ve experienced the production process themselves,” shared Sandeep Munjal, Director. “This immersive project-based learning approach not only refined their ability to serve wine in a knowledgeable manner, but also taught them to appreciate the highly specialized production cycle, an edge that sets them apart in today’s international hospitality landscape.” shared Prof. Anila Rattan, Head- school of hospitality and Tourism Management at Vedatya.
The exclusive showcase brought together journalists, industry leaders, and hospitality stakeholders who experienced first-hand the wines crafted by Vedatya’s students. Guests engaged with the young winemakers, who narrated their journeys of experimentation, precision, and innovation.Faculty and leadership also highlighted Vedatya’s commitment to sustainable, farm-to-table education models, echoing global culinary and hospitality trends. The initiative sharpened students’ technical abilities, preparing them for specialized roles in wine service, curation, and sommelier expertise.
“To recognize what makes a great wine, students must first know its roots, from the soil to the cellar,” added Associate Professor Debpriya De.
With this landmark initiative, Vedatya reinforced its vision of reimagining hospitality education through immersive, industry-ready experiences that go beyond the classroom. Students on Vedatya’s hospitality and culinary degree programs as well as those who are pursuing the recently launched CII – VET by EHL program had an opportunity to not only learn about wines, but also know about international career pathways.
