A major fire broke out at the Fishing Harbour in Paradip on the evening of March 6, 2025, causing significant damage to multiple fishing boats. However, the quick and well-coordinated response by Paradip Port’s fire and emergency teams, along with Mutual Aid assistance from IFFCO and IOCL fire tenders, played a crucial role in swiftly bringing the situation under control.
The fire started at approximately 6.30pm and was fully extinguished by 11.30pm, demonstrating the efficiency of the firefighting teams. A total of fire engines were deployed, including two from Paradip Port Authority (PPA) and six from assisting agencies. The activation of a balloon light tower ensured visibility for effective operations, while senior officials, including the ADM Paradip and DySP, were on-site to oversee and coordinate the emergency response.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire originated from cooking activities outside the fishing boats. Despite the destruction of ten trawlers and numerous dinghies, the rapid containment efforts prevented the fire from spreading further, averting a larger catastrophe. Importantly, there were no casualties reported, underlining the port’s commitment to safety and crisis preparedness.
A night-long fire watch was maintained to ensure safety. Authorities are also reviewing safety protocols to strengthen preventive measures in the future.
