Unexpected expenses can put immediate pressure on household finances, particularly when savings are not enough to cover an immediate cash requirement. According to the Reserve Bank of India, 68% of fintech personal loans in 2022–23 were below ₹5,000, while the average ticket size of fintech personal loans was around ₹11,000 in 2023, highlighting the sector’s focus on small-value credit.Alongside convenience, however, responsible lending, transparency and customer protection are becoming increasingly important.

Here are five fintech companies contributing to the changing short–term credit landscape in India:

1. Emergency Paisa

Emergency Paisa has positioned itself around providing short–term financial support during unexpected expenses, including medical requirements, household needs, travel, bills and urgent payments. Its digital platform allows eligible users to apply for credit through an online process focused on speed, convenience and transparency.

The platform says it has processed 11,243+ loan applications, served 10,000+ customers across 50+ cities and recorded 2M+ app downloads, indicating the growing consumer adoption of app-based access to short–term credit. It also highlights 24/7 customer assistance as part of its service model.

2. Fibe

Fibe is a digital consumer finance platform offering personal and emergency loans. The company uses technologies including AI, machine learning and data science across areas such as onboarding, underwriting, risk management and fraud management. This reflects how technology is increasingly becoming central to the way fintech companies assess and serve borrowers.

3. Moneyview

Moneyview has developed a broader digital financial-services platform that includes personal loans alongside other financial products. Its technology-led model enables consumers to discover and apply for financial products digitally, contributing to the wider shift from traditional, branch-led financial services to digital-first experiences.

4. KreditBee

KreditBee focuses on digital personal lending, providing consumers with an online route to access credit for different financial requirements. Its digital application and processing model reflects how fintech platforms are attempting to reduce friction in the conventional borrowing journey.

5. CASHe

CASHe is a digital lending platform focused on technology-enabled personal credit. Its model forms part of the broader fintech shift towards digital onboarding and technology-driven credit assessment, allowing consumers to access personal credit through digital channels.

The Road Ahead for Short–Term Credit

The evolution of digital lending is moving beyond simply making credit faster. Technology is increasingly being used across onboarding, underwriting, risk assessment, fraud prevention and customer servicing. At the same time, consumers need greater clarity around the cost and terms of borrowing. With RBI strengthening the regulatory framework around digital lending, the next phase of the sector is likely to be shaped by a combination of speed, accessibility, responsible lending and transparency.
