India Inc Investment Plans Surge to Rs 84.7 Lakh Crore, Renewables and Data Centres Gain Ground

New Delhi, Sep 8: India Inc is showing stronger appetite for fresh investments, with investment announcements rising to around Rs 84.7 lakh crore in FY26, signalling improving business confidence and momentum in the country’s investment cycle, according to SBI Research.

The sharp rise in planned investments reflects companies’ growing focus on expanding capacity and building infrastructure to meet future demand. Manufacturing, power and infrastructure continue to attract significant capital, while newer areas are also emerging as important drivers.

Renewable energy and data centres are gaining a larger share of the investment pipeline, reflecting two major changes in India’s economy — the transition towards cleaner energy and the rapid expansion of the digital economy.

The data-centre sector is attracting growing investment as demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services increases. SBI’s latest sector assessment expects India’s installed data-centre capacity to expand substantially by 2030, supported by continued investment from technology companies and other businesses.

Renewable energy is also becoming an increasingly important investment area as industries look for reliable and cleaner sources of power. The growth of renewable projects is creating opportunities across power generation, equipment manufacturing, construction and related services.

The rise in investment announcements could have a wider impact on the economy. Large projects typically generate demand for construction, machinery, raw materials, technology, logistics and professional services, while creating opportunities for employment and smaller businesses connected to the supply chain.

The changing investment pattern also highlights how India’s growth story is gradually expanding beyond traditional sectors. Alongside manufacturing and infrastructure, clean energy, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence are becoming important areas for corporate expansion.

The strong pipeline of investment proposals therefore offers a positive signal for India’s economy, with companies increasingly preparing for the country’s next phase of growth through new capacity, technology and infrastructure.
