Industry data shows that used-car financing recorded a 26.2 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between June 2021 and June 2026, while commercial vehicle financing grew at a 20.1 per cent CAGR during the same period.
The rise in used-car finance reflects the changing way Indian consumers approach vehicle ownership. For many households, pre-owned vehicles offer a more affordable option, while financing allows buyers to manage the purchase through structured repayments rather than paying the full amount upfront.
Commercial vehicle financing is also benefiting from sustained demand among small entrepreneurs, logistics operators, transporters and self-employed workers. For these groups, a vehicle can directly support their income, making access to timely and affordable credit particularly important.
The expansion of digital lending and formal financial services is further widening access to vehicle loans, particularly for customers in smaller cities and towns. This is helping more individuals and businesses participate in the organised credit ecosystem.
The trend also points to the growing importance of the pre-owned automobile market in India. As consumers become increasingly comfortable with used vehicles and financing becomes more widely available, the segment is developing into a significant part of the country’s overall mobility landscape.
For small business owners, financing a commercial vehicle can help them start or expand operations, serve more customers and create additional income opportunities. For families, affordable used-car loans can make personal mobility more attainable.
The continued expansion of vehicle financing therefore reflects more than rising demand for automobiles. It signals a broader shift towards affordable ownership, wider financial access and greater mobility, supporting households, entrepreneurs and businesses across different parts of the country.
