New Delhi, August 22, 2025 โ The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre hosted an unforgettable evening of cinema on August 20, marking the first screening in a landmark celebration of Russian auteur Andrey Tarkovskyโs towering legacy in presence of his son Andrey A. Tarkovskiy who helms The Andrei Tarkovsky International Institute in Florence, Italy.

The screening featured the rare documentary co-created by Tarkovsky and renowned Italian screenwriter Tonino Guerra during the filming of Nostalghia in Italyโa film that offers profound insight into the spiritual and philosophical questions Tarkovsky grappled with during his years in exile.
Following the screening, Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, engaged in a stimulating conversation with Tarkovskiy. The discussion explored Tarkovskyโs creative process, his enduring philosophical vision, and his deep connection with Italy.
Reflecting on his fatherโs experience of shooting in Italy, Tarkovskiy noted that Nostalghia was more than a filmโit was an expression of longing and cultural dialogue. He also shared personal anecdotes about working on his own documentary, Cinema as a Prayer, an intimate cinematic homage to Tarkovsky. โHis vision feels even more prophetic now, and I find myself in harmony with his words and ideas.โ
The event was attended by cinephiles, cultural enthusiasts, and students who were deeply moved by the post-screening conversation. Anastasio emphasized the Centreโs commitment to fostering cultural exchange: โCulture is what you inheritโand what you create through interaction. These events are about creating bridges across geographies through art and dialogue.โ
Other highlights of the programme:
