Mumbai, Dec 11: Arth by Emcure, in collaboration withย Jaiย Vakeelย Foundation, hostedย โInclusionย Ke Sitaareโย atย JW Marriott Mumbai Juhuย to recognise individuals and organisations supportingย inclusionย through education, employment, representation and community participation forย neurodivergent and intellectually disabled individuals.

ย Actorย Aamirย Khanย attended asย Chiefย Guestย and spoke about the roleย ofย families, caregivers and educators in building acceptance, encouraging more people to supportย inclusionย in everyday life. Theย eventย was led byย Namita Thapar, Executive Directorย ofย Emcureย Pharmaceuticals and founderย ofย Arthย byย Emcure, andย Archana Chandra, CEOย ofย Jaiย Vakeelย Foundation, who emphasised that trueย inclusionย comes when every person feels valued, accepted and able to participate equally in society.
Awards were presented toย contributorsย from across Indiaย who have taken meaningful steps to remove barriers and build inclusive environments. The honours included recognition forย Akshar Schoolย for inclusive education,ย Solโs Arcย for expanding inclusive employment opportunities,ย Asthaย for enabling accessible public services, andย Buddy Up Networkย for responsible and positive media representation.ย Dr. Smita Mahobiaย was also acknowledged for her individual efforts in guiding families and creating supportive pathways.

The awardees were selected byย aย jury comprisingย Dr. Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, former Chief Justice of India, Shilpi Kapoor, Founder of BarrierBreak, Arman Ali, former Director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, Kanchan Pamnani, Advocate and Solicitor, and R. S. Prasanna, Film Director. The jury reviewed eligible nominations and deliberated to identify those advancing meaningfulย inclusionย in their communities.
Aย performance byย aย childrenโs group that included children with intellectual disabilities opened the evening, reflecting the confidence and joy that participation brings.

According toย aย 2022ย systematic review published in the Journalย ofย Neurosciences in Rural Practice, the estimated prevalenceย ofย intellectualย disabilityย in India is around 2 percent, indicating that millionsย ofย individuals require sustainedย inclusionย and support across education and community environments (Source: PMC National Libraryย ofย Medicine).ย Aย 2024 workforceย inclusionย report by theย United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)ย notes that persons with disabilities in India haveย aย labour force participation rateย ofย approximately 36 percent, much lower than the general population.
Organisers said such gaps highlight why recognitionย ofย inclusive practices can encourage more schools, workplaces and civic systems to support people with intellectual disabilities in everyday life.
Speaking at theย event,ย Ms. Thaparย said, โInclusionย is meaningful when every child and adult can participate with confidence and supportโ.ย Ms. Chandraย added that, โacknowledging supporters and advocates helps families feel encouraged and recognised in their effortsโ.
Families, educators and supporters attended the ceremony, united in the belief that every person deserves the right to belong and be included in society.
