Bengaluru Dec 26:- Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable infrastructure and indigenous engineering, Autocracy Machinery has successfully deployed its advanced Aquatic De-Weeder to the Greater Bengaluru Authority, marking a significant milestone in Bengaluru’s urban lake rejuvenation and environmental sustainability efforts.
Designed and manufactured entirely in India, the Aquatic De-Weeder is a high-capacity, purpose-built solution for the efficient removal of aquatic weeds, floating waste, and biomass from lakes, canals, and reservoirs. The machine has been specifically engineered to address the unique challenges of Indian urban water bodies, including shallow depths, sensitive ecosystems, and continuous waste inflow, while ensuring high productivity and safe operation.
The Aquatic De-Weeder offers a storage capacity of 13 cubic metres, expandable up to 16 cubic metres, with payload handling of over 5 tonnes. Powered by a 112 HP diesel engine and featuring an operating width of 4 to 6 metres, the machine delivers consistent performance across varied water conditions. Its low-draft design, reaching as low as 70 cm when empty, combined with a dual-pontoon catamaran hull, ensures superior stability and manoeuvrability in shallow waters. Advanced features such as fully hydraulic paddle-wheel propulsion, live GPS tracking, integrated safety sensors, and operator-friendly control systems further enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
As a fully indigenous solution, the Aquatic De-Weeder stands as a strong example of the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives in action. Every critical component from hull fabrication and hydraulic systems to control architecture and safety mechanisms has been engineered and manufactured domestically, enabling faster service support, reduced dependence on imports, and optimised lifecycle costs for civic authorities.
The initiative was driven by the vision and support of senior government and civic officials, including the Chief Commissioner, Shri Maheshwar Rao; the Commissioner, Bangalore South City Corporation, Shri K. N. Ramesh; and the Chief Engineer, Bangalore South City Corporation, Shri Basavaraj Kabade, along with other senior officers who were present during the demonstration and inauguration. The procurement process was initiated by the then Lake Division under then BBMP, under the leadership of the then Chief Commissioner, Shri Tushar Girinath, in support of the Lakes Department led by the Special Commissioner, Smt. Preeti Gehlot, with guidance from the technical wing headed by Chief Engineer Shri Vijaya Kumar Haridas and Executive Engineer Smt. Nithya J.
From Autocracy Machinery, founders Mr Vallakati Laxman and Ms Santhoshi Sushma Buddhiraju, were present during the deployment and demonstration, reaffirming the company’s focus on delivering globally benchmarked yet locally engineered solutions for critical urban water-management challenges. The Hon’ble Commissioner emphasised that adoption of advanced, purpose-built machinery is critical to enhancing operational efficiency, reducing project timelines, and effectively addressing the growing scale and complexity of urban water-body management. He noted that modern, reliable Made-in-India infrastructure equipment would play a vital role in strengthening the city’s capabilities in flood mitigation, lake restoration, and sustainable desilting, ensuring long-term resilience and environmentally responsible management of Bengaluru’s water bodies.
The deployment of the Aquatic De-Weeder is expected to significantly enhance GBA’s operational efficiency in aquatic weed removal, improve water circulation, and contribute to the long-term ecological health of Bengaluru’s lakes.
