FMCG Hiring Remains Resilient as Rural Consumption, Premiumisation, and Supply-Chain Modernisation Sustain Demand in HY1

As per the latest TeamLease Employment Outlook Report, the FMCG sector continues to witness steady hiring activity, with Net Employment Change (NEC) at 5.3% in HY1 FY 2026–27. While 63% of employers expect to increase hiring, 26% foresee no change, and 11% anticipate workforce reductions, indicating continued expansion despite a more measured pace. These findings are based on a survey of 1,268 employers across 23 industries and 20 cities, conducted between November 2025 and January 2026.

Rural Consumption and Premiumisation Support Workforce Demand

Hiring momentum is being driven by resilient rural demand, premiumisation across urban markets, and investments in food processing and supplychain efficiency. Increasing adoption of automation and AI-led demand forecasting is also reshaping workforce requirements toward more productivity-focused roles.

Demand Concentrates in Sales, Distribution, and Innovation Functions

Employers are prioritising talent across sales distribution, rural channel management, R&D, packaging innovation, and digital marketing as brands strengthen market penetration and consumer engagement strategies.

Measured Hiring Reflects Focus on Operational Efficiency

While hiring remains positive, FMCG companies are increasingly balancing growth with operational efficiency, leveraging technology and data-driven decision-making to optimise workforce expansion.

The projected yearly salary increment for the calendar year 2026 for the FMCG sector is 9.3%.
