Mahabubnagar, Sept 09: A special awareness programme on Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia was conducted by Mahabubnagar Collectorate & Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Society TSCS to create greater awareness about these inherited blood disorders, their prevention, early detection, and management.
The awareness talks were delivered by Dr. Suman Jain – Chief Medical Research Officer and Secretary at the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (TSCS), Mrs. Ratnavali – Vice President (TSCS), and Dr. Padma – Senior Research Scientist (TSCS), who highlighted various aspects of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia and stressed the importance of awareness and preventive healthcare practices.
DMHO Dr. Srinivasulu and Programme Officer Dr. Shankar attended the programme, along with doctors, staff nurses, laboratory technicians (LTs), MPH staff, and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs).
Around 200 participants took part in the awareness programme and actively engaged in the discussions. The programme gave healthcare personnel and participants a better understanding of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia, and the importance of timely screening, diagnosis, and appropriate care.
The programme concluded with a call for continued efforts to strengthen awareness and encourage early screening and timely intervention, particularly among communities at risk of these genetic blood disorders. The team also addressed them about attending the upcoming international GANSID Congress going to be held at Hyderabad HICC, Novotel on 23rd to 25th October 2026.
